Evolution of magnetohydrodynamic wave-modes in spicule structure : From 2D to 3D

Spicules are thin jet-like features on Sun which are believed to be the possible candidates of transferring mass and energy from lower solar atmosphere at a temperature of a few thousand degrees to higher up in the hotter corona, which is at the temperature of millions of degrees. This energy transfer takes place in form of waves and oscillations, observed in the dynamics of these thin magnetic flux tubes (MFTs). The 2D image data taken from imaging-spectroscopy instruments at one of the world's biggest ground-based solar telescope (Swedish Solar Telescope at La Palma) were analyzed and the result is visualized as 3D motion of the observed feature. The 3D visual shows swaying motion of the jet due to magnetic field oscillations and changes in cross-sectional area due to plasma perturbations.
