However, there is evidence to suggest that Romance is one of the oldest and most enduring of literary modes which survive today, and there is, I believe, a clear provenance from the sentimental Romances of the eighteenth-century to Harlequin Mills & Boon romances of today.
This research highlights the tropes and literary devices used by authors from the Mills & Boon stable in order to unite their heroes and heroines and illustrate why readers don’t need to be ashamed to enjoy a Mills & Boon romance.
