Annotated Data Management Plan Templates

Posted on 08.09.2017 - 11:40 by John A. Lewis
This is a collection of annotated data management plan (DMP) templates. These may be used when creating DMPs for research funded by the seven RCUK councils, Wellcome Trust, Cancer Research UK and the European Commission H2020 Programme. The Generic DMP template may be useful for projects supported by other funders, or for unfunded projects.

These documents (available in .pdf and .docx formats) were created using the DMPonline tool, which provides templates for structuring DMPs for major UK research funders. The documents include the guidance text provided in the tool, produced by the Digital Curation Centre (DCC), the funders and the University of Sheffield Library. However, use of the DMPonline tool is highly recommended and these documents are intended to be used in conjunction with the tool.

Many research funders and organisations require DMPs, both during the bid-preparation stage and after funding has been secured. A DMP describes how you will collect, organise, manage, store, secure, backup, preserve, and where applicable, share your data. Each funder has slightly different guidelines and template structure. The resulting DMP is generally expected to be two or three A4 pages in length.

For further information, see the Digital Curation Centre guidance on Data Management Plans and How to Develop a Data Management and Sharing Plan.
