Title: Validation Data of N10 and S3 Oils to Observe Changing Film Thickness Instituation: The University of Sheffield, UK Date of Collection: 18092019 Keywords: Bearing, meniscus, oil lubrication, grease lubrication Rig: Flat plate rig, developed by Dr Joseph Kanja Overview: This folder contains the raw ultrasonic signals from the flat plate data in .tdms file format and the processed .MAT file to calculate film thickness. Notes on test: For each test, the ultrasonic test equipment (picoscope) was used to excite a single central sensor on the bottom face of the aluminium flat plate validation rig at the University of Sheffield. The recording was begun and then an oil drop applied to the top surface of the plate and allowed to spread and thin as readings were taken. The test was ended after a defined 15,000 reflections were recorded. The test was taken at room temperature conditions ~22C. Notes on Processed data The bandwidth appllied to the signals is -22db The structure contains banches for both the low viscosity Cannon s3 calibration oil and higher viscosty cannon n10 callibration oil. Within each of these branches is a 'TestTime' variable giving time stamos for each reflection. "Resonance_h" is the film thickness calculated via the resonance method. "TOF_h" is film thickness calculated fia the time-of-flight method. The TestTime units are seconds, the film thickness units for both methods is micron. The data was processed using ProcessSingleSensor_v5.mlx.
